Breast ultrasound

Breast ultrasound is a safe, noninvasive imaging test that uses sound waves to create pictures of the inside of the breast, with no radiation involved. It is commonly used to further evaluate an area of concern found on a mammogram or physical exam, such as a lump or cyst, and can help distinguish between solid masses and fluid-filled cysts. A small handheld device is gently placed on the breast with a gel to help transmit the sound waves, and the test is usually painless and quick. Most patients can resume normal activities immediately after.
