CT

Computed tomography, or CT, is a method of imaging the inside of the body. It involves taking a series of images using X-rays, and then putting them together using a computer in order to create a detailed 3D image. When you receive a CT scan, you pass through a donut-shaped device relatively quickly. An older term for a CT scan is a CAT scan. This stands for computed axial tomography, and it means the same thing. CT scan is currently a more common term for this type of imaging.Sometimes, contrast dye is used to make certain structures more visible on a CT scan. In some cases, this is given through an IV. In most people, the kidneys will naturally clear the contrast dye from the body within 24 hours. There is also a type of contrast that the patient drinks, in order to outline the digestive tract on the scan.In some cases, it‚ useful to have CT scans both with and without contrast. This involves first taking CT images without the contrast dye. The contrast dye is then given, and another set of images of the same tissues are taken. By comparing the two sets of images, a radiologist can distinguish between different types of tissue.A multiphase CT scan involves taking several different images. First, an image is taken without contrast. After contrast is administered through an IV, images are taken at two or three different time intervals. This captures the movement of the dye through the vascular system, which can help radiologists to determine specific types of tissue.

What’s the difference between an individual procedure and a Standard Service Package (SSP)?

Individual Procedure

Individual procedures, like blood tests, each have unique prices and billing codes (like a CPT or HCPCS code). While they can be billed alone, they're usually grouped with other procedures on a claim. This grouping is what determines the total cost of your care.

Standard Service Package (SSP)

A SSP combines all medical services, materials, and fees associated with a healthcare visit or procedure into a single bundle to offer a more comprehensive estimate.
