A electrophysiology study (EPS) and ablation first maps abnormal electrical signals in the heart using thin catheters inserted through blood vessels, then treats the problem by delivering targeted energy to destroy the small area of tissue causing the irregular rhythm. It is used to diagnose and treat arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, SVT, or other rhythm disorders. The procedure is performed under sedation in a hospital and typically takes two to four hours. Most patients go home the same day or after a brief observation period, with follow-up care to monitor heart rhythm and recovery.
